New Delhi, June 19: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, chaired by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, will meet on Friday to receive a pre-departure briefing from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) ahead of its four-day study visit to Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 4:30 pm at the Parliament House Annexe (PHA), where MEA officials will brief committee members on key strategic and diplomatic issues before their visit from June 22 to June 25.
During the meeting, the committee will discuss India-China relations, with a special focus on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and the future course of bilateral ties. Members will also review the latest developments in India-Pakistan relations, particularly concerning the border situation.
The study tour aims to provide committee members with first-hand insights into the security, strategic, and developmental challenges in India’s border regions. The delegation is scheduled to visit Jammu, Srinagar, Kargil, and Leh, where it will interact with local stakeholders, security officials, and civil administration to assess the ground situation.
The visit comes at a time of continued focus on border security and regional stability, with discussions expected to cover issues related to national security, infrastructure, and diplomatic engagement.
Separately, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, chaired by JD(U) leader Sanjay Kumar Jha, recently held a meeting to discuss the impact of geopolitical developments in West Asia on India’s road infrastructure sector. The committee reviewed the issue with officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways during a meeting held at the Parliament House Annexe Extension.
