Ganderbal, May 5: Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Jatin Kishore on Monday chaired a review meeting to assess the progress of ongoing Census preparations in the district, with a focus on ensuring adherence to timelines and strengthening field-level readiness.
At the outset, the meeting was informed that foundational work, including fixation of village boundaries and preparation of digital village maps, has largely been completed. The maps have been reviewed at the tehsil level, necessary corrections incorporated, and are expected to be uploaded on the central portal shortly.
The meeting was apprised that registration of all field functionaries, including supervisors, enumerators, and field trainers, has been completed. Training of field trainers has already been conducted, while enumerator and supervisor training will be rolled out in phases starting mid-May. The DC emphasized the need for well-structured training sessions with proper infrastructure to ensure effective outcomes.
Reviewing demarcation work, the meeting noted that the creation of House Listing Blocks (HLBs) and their internal mapping is underway across tehsils, with significant progress achieved in several areas. The DC directed officials to expedite the process to meet the prescribed deadlines.
It was further informed that adequate manpower has been mobilized, including additional staff from the Education Department to bridge gaps in certain areas. Identification of reserve staff has also been completed to ensure smooth execution of field operations.
The house listing exercise is scheduled to commence from June 1, during which enumerators will conduct door-to-door surveys. The actual population enumeration will be carried out in the next phase, with special arrangements planned for snow-bound areas where enumeration will be conducted earlier due to accessibility issues.
The DC also reviewed preparations for self-enumeration, which is set to begin from May 17 in the district. He directed officers to intensify awareness campaigns and integrate them with ongoing outreach activities to ensure maximum public participation.
Stressing coordinated efforts, the DC urged all departments and field officials to work in close synergy for the timely and smooth completion of all Census-related activities.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chief Planning Officer, Tehsildars, and other concerned officers.
