Responding to a query raised by MLA Farooq Ahmad Shah in the Assembly, the Minister in charge stated that the government has taken significant steps to reclaim encroached land. “All illegal entries in revenue records have been expunged, and special eviction drives are being carried out regularly,” the minister informed the House.

In addition to the eviction efforts, the government has approved 3,555 cases of land use change in Jammu and Kashmir. These approvals have been granted for varied purposes including commercial, industrial, and residential developments.

Highlighting the strategic reallocation of state land, the minister said that 40,151 kanals and 17.5 marlas of land have been transferred to the Industries and Commerce Department to boost economic development across the region.

Specifically in Gulmarg, 94 kanals of land have been transferred — with 50 kanals allocated in Hardubani village and 44 kanals in Lalpora village — as part of focused regional planning.

The government’s intensified crackdown on illegal encroachments and its drive to repurpose land for developmental purposes is seen as part of a broader effort to improve land governance and infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
