Srinagar, Feb 05: A massive fire erupted in the early hours of Thursday in Srinagar’s Chattabal area, causing extensive damage to a cluster of closely built residential houses, officials said.
An official told news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that more than 10 residential structures were affected in the incident. “The fire call was received at 6:31 am, and fire tenders were rushed to the spot within a minute,” he said.
“On arrival, firefighting teams found three to four houses already engulfed in flames. The situation deteriorated after two to three LPG cylinders exploded, leading to the fire spreading rapidly to adjacent houses,” the official said, adding that around 8–10 houses were completely gutted.
He said cooling operations were underway to prevent any re-ignition, while the cause of the fire was being ascertained. (Agencies)
