Jammu/New Delhi, June 25: The Central Government has appointed senior IPS officer Dr. Mahesh Dixit as the new Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), India’s premier internal intelligence and security agency. Dixit succeeds outgoing IB chief Tapan Deka, who completed an extended tenure at the helm of the organisation. Reports regarding his elevation have emerged from security and bureaucratic circles.
A 1993-batch IPS officer of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh cadre, Dr. Dixit is regarded as one of the most experienced intelligence officers in the country. He has spent a significant part of his career in the Intelligence Bureau, handling sensitive assignments related to internal security, counter-terrorism and intelligence operations. He also served in Jammu and Kashmir, where he was involved in some of the region’s most challenging security and intelligence-related responsibilities, further strengthening his experience in counter-insurgency and field coordination. His extensive background in sensitive postings is believed to have played a crucial role in his elevation to the country’s top intelligence post. Given the sensitive nature of the appointment, an official Government of India notification should be cited once released for definitive confirmation.
