Revised delivery timelines raise concerns among households as consumers may face longer waits for LPG cylinders despite government assurance of adequate supply.

In response to growing concerns over the availability of LPG cooking gas, the central government has reportedly revised the waiting period for cylinder deliveries across the country. The move comes as many consumers have raised worries about possible disruptions in supply.

According to national media reports, the waiting time for LPG cylinders in urban areas has been increased to 25 days, compared to the earlier 21 days. In rural areas, the waiting period has been extended further, with consumers now having to wait up to 45 days after placing an order for a cylinder.

The revised timeline means households in cities may receive their LPG cylinders about four days later than earlier, while those in rural areas could face a significantly longer wait for deliveries.

The change comes after the government recently stated that the country has sufficient LPG reserves to meet demand for nearly 70 days. However, the updated delivery schedule suggests that distribution logistics and supply chain processes may require additional time to handle orders.

The extended waiting period is likely to affect millions of households that rely on LPG for daily cooking, particularly in rural areas where alternative fuel options are limited. Authorities have not yet given a detailed explanation for the revision, but it has increased public concern about the availability of cooking gas.

Officials, however, continue to maintain that the overall supply of LPG remains stable, even as consumers prepare for longer waiting times for cylinder deliveries. (Agency)
