Srinagar, Feb 20: In a significant crackdown on an alleged overseas medical admission fraud, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against four individuals for cheating and criminal conspiracy in connection with a Bangladesh MBBS admission scam.

In a statement, the EOW said it has submitted a chargesheet in FIR No. 20/2025 under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar.

The case was registered following a written complaint alleging that the complainant was introduced by a relative to certain individuals who promised to secure admission for his son in a medical college in Bangladesh. The accused allegedly claimed they would facilitate the admission through their consultancy firms and assured that the required fees would be deposited with Park View Medical College.

The complainant reportedly paid lakhs of rupees on their assurances. However, investigations revealed that while a substantial amount was collected, only USD 8,000 (approximately ₹6.04 lakh as per the 2021 exchange rate) was deposited with the college. Due to non-payment of the remaining fee, the student was later asked to leave the institution.

Based on bank records, official communication from the medical college, and statements recorded during the probe, the allegations against the four accused were found to be substantiated.

The investigation has been concluded and the chargesheet has been presented before the competent court for judicial proceedings, the statement added. (Agency)
