NC President Farooq Abdullah expresses sorrow over Ramban landslide, urges swift government response
National Conference (NC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the tragic landslide incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, which claimed three lives and left a village completely devastated.
Speaking to reporters, Dr Abdullah said, “An entire village has collapsed. Three people have lost their lives… It’s a major tragedy. I hope the Government of India and the Prime Minister will take serious note of the situation.”
Meanwhile, Gujarat Cabinet Minister Rushikesh Patel confirmed that all 50 Gujarati tourists stranded in the region due to the landslide are safe. He added that the state government has ensured proper arrangements for their well-being and is coordinating efforts to bring them home safely.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh also appreciated the swift action of the Indian Army, which set up medical camps and distributed essential medicines in the affected area. He acknowledged the efforts of Ramban’s district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Baseer Haq, for working tirelessly since the incident unfolded.
The flash floods and landslides, triggered by intense rainfall in the early hours of Sunday, wreaked havoc in the Bagahana village of Ramban, where two houses collapsed, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including two children.
In light of the prevailing adverse weather conditions and ongoing alerts, Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina announced the suspension of classwork in all schools across the Kashmir Valley on Monday, April 21, as a precautionary measure to ensure students’ safety.
