Jammu, Mar 25: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today highlighted Jammu and Kashmir’s transformation into a leader in agricultural innovation, citing its initiatives as benchmarks for other states. Speaking at the ‘Krishak Mela 2025’ at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu, he credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for the rapid advancements in the region’s agriculture and allied sectors.

“We have taken several innovative steps, including the launch of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP). For the past three years, J&K has set new productivity records in agriculture,” LG Sinha said.

He emphasized that J&K, once reliant on external agricultural models, is now at the forefront of developing policies and techniques that other states are adopting. Initiatives like sustainable farming practices, advanced technology integration, and marketing reforms have significantly enhanced productivity. The administration has also secured Geographical Indication (GI) tags for several local products, boosting their market value, with efforts ongoing for more recognitions.

LG Sinha praised SKUAST Jammu for its outreach programs through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and research stations. He urged the university to strengthen its engagement with farmers to ensure research-driven innovations reach the grassroots level.

During the event, LG Sinha inaugurated key facilities, including a fully automated Poultry Production Unit, a Poultry Research PG Lab, a Sanskriti PG Girls’ Hostel, a Faculty Club, and Residential Quarters. He also launched ‘Radio Kissan SKUAST Jammu 90.8 FM’ and released a publication, Krishi Adharit Udhyamon ke Madhyam Se: Sashakt aur Smriddh Bhavishya ki Kheti, compiled by KVK Jammu.

The ‘Krishak Mela’ showcased modern agricultural technologies and sustainable farming practices while facilitating knowledge exchange among farmers, scientists, and policymakers.

Present at the event were Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, SKUAST Jammu Vice Chancellor Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Director of Extension Dr. Amrish Vaid, Dean F.V.SC & AH Dr. Rajesh Katoch, faculty members, senior officials, and a large gathering of farmers.
