Kishtwar Police Crack Down on Drug Network; Notorious Peddler and Wife Arrested, Heroin-Like Substance and Cash Seized

Kishtwar, May 22: Continuing its intensified campaign against narcotics under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, Kishtwar Police carried out a major action against alleged drug peddlers operating in the district and arrested a husband-wife duo during a raid at their residence.

According to police, acting on specific and reliable information regarding the alleged possession and sale of heroin-like substance, a case under FIR No. 113/2026 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act was registered against Rameez Raja alias Tarif Janda, son of Abdul Qayoom Sheikh, a resident of Sarkoot, and his wife Nobia Begum.

Police said a special team led by the SHO Police Station Kishtwar, assisted by a PSI and accompanied by a Magistrate, conducted the operation under the supervision of the DySP Headquarters Kishtwar. During the search of the residence, officials recovered approximately 7.5 grams of heroin-like substance along with ₹87,000 in cash from their possession.

Both accused were taken into custody on the spot after completion of legal formalities, police said.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar stated that the district police has intensified its campaign against narcotics under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and remains committed to eliminating the drug menace through sustained and strict action. The officer added that investigations are being carried out comprehensively to trace both forward and backward linkages, examine financial transactions, and identify other persons allegedly connected with the network in an effort to dismantle the entire chain.

Police also appealed to the public to share information related to drug trafficking and assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
