J&K Govt to Designate Nodal Agency for EV Charging Stations Implementation
J&K to Establish EV Charging Stations with Regulated Tariff Structure
Srinagar, Mar 21: The Jammu and Kashmir administration is set to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure with a regulated tariff system to ensure affordable and efficient charging for users.
While the exact number of charging stations is yet to be finalized, the government plans to implement a structured pricing model that includes lower tariffs during solar hours to encourage the use of renewable energy. This move aims to make EV adoption more cost-effective while promoting environmental sustainability.
A designated nodal agency will oversee the installation and expansion of EV charging stations, ensuring compliance with national policies. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower carbon emissions, and modernize the transportation sector in J&K.
The Ministry of Power has introduced a single-part tariff system for EV charging stations, effective until March 31, 2028. The tariff will not exceed the Average Cost of Supply (ACoS), with time-of-use pricing in place:
- Solar hours (9 AM to 4 PM): Electricity rates will be 0.7 times the ACoS.
- Non-solar hours: Rates will be 1.3 times the ACoS.
For public charging station users, service charges have been capped:
- AC chargers: ₹3 per unit during solar hours, ₹4 per unit during non-solar hours.
- DC fast chargers: ₹11 per unit during solar hours, ₹13 per unit during non-solar hours.
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has been appointed as the Central Nodal Agency, while J&K will designate a State Nodal Agency to coordinate with power distribution companies (DISCOMs) and regulatory bodies for smooth implementation.
Additionally, a State-Level Steering Committee, led by the Secretary of Energy, will monitor and expedite the development of EV charging stations. The plan also includes integrating the charging network with the power grid to ensure efficiency and reliability.
The initiative is expected to accelerate EV adoption in Jammu and Kashmir, reduce operational costs for EV owners, and support the government’s push for sustainable and eco-friendly transportation.
