On Thursday, a group of Vietnamese tourists arrived in Pahalgam, describing Kashmir as “paradise on earth.” They expressed feeling welcomed and safe, even as parts of the area remained off-limits due to heightened security concerns.

A first-time visitor shared her experience, saying, “This is my first visit to Kashmir, and it’s been absolutely amazing. The natural beauty is breathtaking, and the people here are incredibly warm and welcoming. I’ve bought many local items like Kashmiri shawls, and I feel completely safe.”

When asked about the April 22 terror incident, she acknowledged having read about it online and heard from friends, but said it didn’t deter her from coming. “I wanted to see and understand Kashmir for myself. Everyone here has treated us with kindness and made us feel protected, so I never felt afraid.”

Another group member, Samita, added, “We are from Vietnam, and Kashmir truly feels like a paradise—so different from our country, with snow-capped mountains and a cool climate. It’s a beautiful experience.”

The group also supported local businesses by purchasing traditional crafts. “We’re taking back gifts for friends and family—Kashmir is known for its exquisite handicrafts and shawls. After the recent attack, we know tourism is affected, so we wanted to support the local artisans,” Samita explained.

The terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 tragically claimed 26 lives, targeting tourists and prompting temporary restrictions. Despite this, stories like these highlight the resilience of tourism in Kashmir and the continued appeal of the valley’s beauty and culture.
