The protest witnessed the participation of senior Congress leaders, party office-bearers, Youth Congress members, leaders of frontal organisations and hundreds of party workers from across the Union Territory.

Following the demonstration, Congress leaders and workers took out a march towards the Lieutenant Governor’s residence to submit a memorandum highlighting the party’s demand for the immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

However, before the delegation could reach the LG House, Jammu and Kashmir Police stopped the march and detained several Congress leaders and workers, including Youth Congress leaders.

The Congress strongly criticised the detentions, asserting that peacefully submitting a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor is a democratic right. The party maintained that it would continue its peaceful and constitutional struggle until full statehood is restored to Jammu and Kashmir.

The JKPCC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding democratic values and protecting the constitutional rights and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
