Jammu, Mar 24: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday announced that Jammu and Kashmir has hosted over 350 film and web series shoots in the past five years, attributing the surge to the region’s peaceful environment and the implementation of a progressive film policy.

Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Tawi Filmotsav’ at Abhinav Theatre in Jammu, organized by the J&K Cine Association, Sinha highlighted the revival of J&K as a preferred destination for filmmakers. “Our efforts over the last five years in fostering peace and development have made Jammu and Kashmir a global hub for film production,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the role of cinema as a powerful medium for social change. “Cinema is not just a source of entertainment; it is an instrument of education and transformation. Through creative storytelling, filmmakers have the ability to influence society positively,” he remarked.

The newly launched Tawi Filmotsav aims to provide a platform for local artists to showcase their talent and nurture J&K’s rich cultural heritage. Sinha noted that technological advancements have empowered young filmmakers and urged them to use their craft to address social issues such as drug addiction. “Creativity should not only fulfill personal ambitions but also contribute to societal change,” he added.

Under the new film policy, J&K offers world-class facilities, incentives, and a streamlined approval process to filmmakers, attracting both domestic and international productions. “The transformation of Jammu and Kashmir into a global filming destination is a testament to the success of this policy,” Sinha stated.

During the event, the Lieutenant Governor released a brochure of the ‘Tawi Filmotsav’ and praised the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) for its continuous efforts in preserving and promoting the region’s artistic legacy.

Prominent dignitaries present at the event included Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu, Nitish Rajora, Director of Information, Harvinder Kour, Secretary of JKAACL, Dharminder Kohli, President of the J&K Cine Association, senior officials, filmmakers, and renowned artists.

Sinha reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening J&K’s status as a premier filming location while ensuring cultural and economic growth in the region. “With peace and stability, Jammu and Kashmir will continue to flourish as a cinematic and artistic hub,” he concluded.
