50 supernumerary seats created for SMVDIME MBBS students at GMCs; BOPEE to hold counselling on Saturday
Srinagar, Jan 22: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that the Jammu and Kashmir Government has resolved the college allocation issue of students earlier selected for the MBBS course at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME).
In a post on X, the Chief Minister’s Office said the admission issue of SMVDIME MBBS students has been resolved. “The Government has resolved the college allocation issue for selected MBBS candidates of SMVD College. With BOPEE now issuing the counselling schedule, students can move ahead with their studies,” the post read.
Earlier, the National Medical Commission had withdrawn the Letter of Permission granted to SMVDIME for the MBBS course, citing critical deficiencies in infrastructure, staff, and other requirements.
As per a notification issued by the Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE), 50 supernumerary seats have been created for SMVDIME students across seven Government Medical Colleges.
Eight seats have been allotted to GMC Anantnag, while seven seats each have been created at GMC Baramulla, GMC Doda, GMC Handwara, GMC Kathua, GMC Rajouri, and GMC Udhampur.
According to the notification, BOPEE will conduct a physical round of counselling for these students on January 24 at 11:00 am. — (Agencies)
