Srinagar, September 30, 2026: Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Wednesday termed the seven-day Autumn Session “unfortunate” and alleged that the National Conference-led government failed to address the concerns of various sections of society.

Addressing reporters on the concluding day of the session, Sharma said daily wagers, NHM and contractual employees, NYC workers, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, along with the general public, had expected the government to respond to their grievances. He alleged that issues collected from different districts and raised in the Assembly remained unanswered.

Sharma also criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s description of the session as fruitful. He alleged that the government’s Statehood resolution had complicated the issue by referring to the pre-1953 constitutional position and Article 370. Sharma reiterated that the BJP supports restoration of statehood but opposes linking it with those issues.

The BJP leader further questioned the Assembly Speaker’s decision to allow the resolution and demanded that the Speaker step down on moral grounds. He also criticised the Congress leadership over its position on the resolution.

Sharma said the BJP had prepared a dossier highlighting what it described as unfulfilled government promises and would submit it through the Assembly. He additionally claimed that around 13,000 government posts remain vacant and alleged that recruitment agencies such as JKPSC and JKSSB were not being utilised effectively.

The allegations were made by Sharma in his capacity as Leader of Opposition; reports noted that the National Conference government and Congress had not responded to all of his allegations at the time of publication.
