Pulwama MLA Waheed Para has filed an application before the Special NIA Court in Jammu seeking one-time permanent travel permission to visit and move outside the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Para argued that as the elected representative of Pulwama, he is required to engage regularly with institutions and sectors that directly impact the district’s development.
His counsel submitted that Pulwama hosts major national institutions such as AIIMS, IUST University, the Industrial Growth Centre, and a large horticulture sector, all of which are deeply connected with the mainland. To effectively pursue developmental projects, liaise with ministries, and ensure progress for his constituency, Para argued that a permanent, once-for-all travel clearance is essential.
After hearing submissions from both sides, the Special Court reserved its order, which will be pronounced in due course.
This plea is seen as significant, given the scope of ongoing developmental linkages and the MLA’s need to coordinate with central departments and institutions for Pulwama’s growth.
NIA court Jammu has reserved the judgement after hearing objections from NIA.
