Jammu, May 26: In a case raising serious concerns over the alleged misuse of social media platforms for targeted campaigns and online abuse, Doda Police have registered an FIR against TLR Media Network operator Sulinder Singh Parihar following allegations of a sustained defamatory and inflammatory campaign against a serving police officer.
According to FIR No. 136/2026 registered at Police Station Doda, the complainant, SHO Kishtwar Firdous Ahmed, alleged that he was subjected to a continuous campaign involving defamatory content, provocative statements and social media posts intended to damage his image and reputation while he was discharging official duties.
As per the complaint, the issue traces back to protests over the operation of a liquor vend in Kishtwar, after which the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh had reportedly directed authorities to ensure law and order and provide necessary protection at the site. The SHO stated that he had acted strictly in compliance with judicial directions and in the course of official duty.
The complaint alleges that instead of factual reporting, the accused launched a sustained social media campaign portraying the officer as supporting unlawful activities and making allegations relating to corruption and narcotics. The FIR further mentions the alleged use of derogatory and inflammatory language against the officer on online platforms.
The complaint further alleges that morphed images were circulated and that repeated use of terms such as “Pakistani SHO”, “Hindustan Ka Gaddar” and “Desh Drohi” created fear and mental distress for the complainant and his family. The complainant stated that such content had the potential to create hostility and adversely affect public confidence and communal harmony.
Police stated that after examining the contents of the complaint, offences under Sections 122, 197, 351(2), 352, 353 and 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) were found prima facie established and the case was accordingly registered. Investigation into the matter has been entrusted to SI Saddam Hussain.
The case has once again brought attention to growing concerns surrounding the alleged misuse of digital platforms and social media for personal targeting, online harassment and dissemination of content that may have serious consequences for individuals and institutions.
