Srinagar, Jan 24: Weather conditions in Kashmir are expected to improve from Saturday after a spell of heavy snowfall, which had disrupted normal life across the Valley, officials said.

Independent weather observer Faizan Arif said the Western Disturbance affecting the region has moved out of Jammu and Kashmir, and the weather is likely to remain largely dry over the next 48 hours.

However, a few more inches of snowfall were recorded overnight in parts of Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipora, and Kishtwar districts, he added.

Arif noted that Rajouri town also received snowfall, a rare occurrence, and snow was reported in areas that had not seen it for nearly a decade.

He said another Western Disturbance is expected to approach the region from Monday afternoon, bringing light to moderate rain and snowfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The recent spell of intense windstorms and heavy snowfall had disrupted power supply, road connectivity, and air traffic across the Valley over the past two days, officials said.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department issued a high-danger avalanche warning for six districts following fresh snowfall.

Avalanches with a high-danger level are likely above 2,300 metres in Ganderbal district over the next 24 hours, officials said.

They added that high-danger avalanches are also likely above 2,500 metres in Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban, and Kupwara districts, advising people to avoid avalanche-prone areas. (Agencies)
