Trump Announces Upcoming Visits to Qatar, UAE, and Saudi Arabia
US President Donald Trump has announced plans to visit Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Saudi Arabia next month. The announcement was made while he was signing executive orders in the Oval Office.
When asked about the timing of the trip, Trump confirmed it could take place in May, or potentially a bit later. “It could be next month, maybe a little bit later,” he stated.
Trump also reiterated that he chose Saudi Arabia as his first foreign destination after Riyadh pledged to invest nearly USD 1 trillion in US companies, as reported by The Times of Israel.
Meanwhile, in a separate phone interview with NBC News, Trump sparked controversy by suggesting he might seek a third term in office despite the constitutional restrictions. “There are methods which you could do it,” he said, though he emphasized, “I’m not joking” and added, “It is far too early to think about it.”
The 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, explicitly limits presidents to two terms, a rule established after President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s unprecedented four consecutive terms. Trump’s comments raised concerns about his willingness to challenge the amendment, although it remains unclear how seriously he intends to pursue this idea.
The remarks have drawn significant criticism. Rep. Daniel Goldman called it an “escalation in his clear effort to take over the government and dismantle our democracy.” He urged Congressional Republicans to oppose Trump’s ambitions for a third term.
“If Congressional Republicans believe in the Constitution, they will go on the record opposing Trump’s ambitions for a third term,” Goldman, a New York Democrat, stated. He had previously served as lead counsel for Trump’s first impeachment.
