Doda, Monday, 8th September 2025: In a major administrative action, Shri Mehraj Din Malik, Hon’ble Member of Legislative Assembly (Constituency Doda-52), has been booked under the Jammu & Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978 (PSA) for activities deemed prejudicial to the maintenance of public order. The action was taken following 18 First Information Reports (FIRs) and 16 Daily Diary (DD) reports registered across various police stations in the Union Territory, highlighting repeated provocations and disturbances allegedly caused by the MLA.

The District Magistrate of Doda, Harvinder Singh, IAS, in his official communication under reference No. 3571-73/DM/Doda dated 08-09-2025, informed the Hon’ble Speaker of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly in terms of Rule 260 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business. The intimation stated that preventive detention under the PSA was necessary after careful consideration of all materials, reports, and circumstances, as the continued activities of the MLA posed a grave threat to peace, public order, and tranquility in the district.

Authorities further noted that Malik’s actions had interfered with relief operations following natural calamities in Doda, including seizing medicines and Health Department equipment at a local centre that had reopened after a 10-day closure caused by landslides and floods. The move was seen as obstructing critical relief and recovery operations.

The intimation was also shared with the Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department, UT of J&K, and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, to ensure coordinated efforts in maintaining law and order.

Officials emphasized that the PSA action was taken in the interest of public safety, law enforcement, and ensuring smooth relief operations in the flood- and landslide-affected areas of Doda. Malik has since been shifted to District Jail Kathua. (Agencies)
