Ramban, May 25, 2026:
Strengthening the ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse, District Police Ramban achieved another success by apprehending two persons along with psychotropic substances during a surprise naka checking at Nashri under the jurisdiction of Police Station Batote. A surprise vehicle checking/frisking naka was established by police at Nashri, where an Alto car bearing registration number JK19-5619, coming from Chenani towards Ramban, was signalled to stop for routine checking.
During enquiry, the driver identified himself as Mohd Khursheed S/o Wazir Din R/o Dhalwas, Ramban, presently working as a contractual employee in the PDD Department, while the co-driver was identified as Mohd Suleman S/o Noor Allahi R/o Dhalwas, Ramban.
During the search of the vehicle, the police party recovered 17 strips containing 10 tablets each and one strip containing 09 tablets of Buprenorphine 2 mg and Naloxone 0.5 mg sublingual tablets, amounting to a total of 179 tablets, concealed in the dashboard of the vehicle.
On being questioned regarding the possession of the recovered contraband, the accused persons failed to provide any satisfactory explanation.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 31/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Batote and both accused persons have been arrested. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source, supply chain, and intended destination of the recovered psychotropic substances.
District Police Ramban is committed to eradicate the menace of substance abuse from society and appeals to the public at large to cooperate with police by sharing any information related to drug peddling or substance abuse in their vicinity.
