District Police Kishtwar Arrests Habitual Drug Peddler; Heroin-Like Substance Recovered

Jammu/Kishtwar, April 10, 2026:

Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug peddlers and their networks, District Police Kishtwar achieved another significant success by arresting a habitual drug offender and recovering approximately 08 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.

Sharing details of the operation, SSP Kishtwar, Sh. Naresh Singh (JKPS), stated that acting on specific intelligence inputs, a naka checking point was established at Shalimar by a police team led by SHO Police Station Kishtwar, Inspector Firdous Ahmed, along with IC Police Post Shalimar PSI Hiteshwar Singh, under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Kishtwar, Dr. Ishan Gupta (JKPS).

During the checking of vehicles and pedestrians, the naka party intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK06C-5714, which was on its way from Kishtwar towards Shalimar. Upon thorough search, approximately 08 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from the possession of the occupant. The accused was immediately arrested on the spot, and the vehicle used in the commission of the offence was also seized.

The arrested individual has been identified as Muzaffar Hussain alias Dagga, son of Mehraj Ud Din Bagwan, resident of Shakti Nagar, Kishtwar.

A case FIR No. 77/2026 under relevant sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kishtwar, and further investigation is underway.

Police officials revealed that the accused is a habitual offender with a history of involvement in multiple criminal cases, including:
• FIR No. 86/2017 under sections 452/341/323 IPC
• FIR No. 108/2021 under sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act
• FIR No. 236/2023 under sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act
• FIR No. 96/2024 under sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act at Police Station Nagrota, Jammu
• FIR No. 77/2026 under sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act

Additionally, the accused was previously booked under the PIT NDPS Act in 2024 vide Order No. 34 of 2024 dated 10-07-2024.

SSP Kishtwar further directed the investigating team to establish both backward and forward linkages of the accused to dismantle the larger narcotics network. He reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against all individuals involved in drug trafficking.

District Police Kishtwar reaffirmed its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and trafficking in the district.
