Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said he is hopeful that work on the Tulbul Navigation Project and the diversion of Chenab river water to supply drinking water to Jammu will commence soon.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said the Union Territory government is coordinating with the Centre to move forward with the projects after the Indus Water Treaty was put in abeyance.
“We are working with the Centre on two important initiatives after the Indus Water Treaty was suspended — one is the Tulbul Navigation Project near Sopore, and the other is lifting water from the Chenab river near Akhnoor to augment the water supply for Jammu,” he said.
He added that the Chenab water supply project had earlier been submitted to the Asian Development Bank but could not proceed due to constraints linked to the treaty. (Agencies)
