Srinagar, Mar 27: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday condemned the ongoing war on Iran and urged the Centre to use diplomatic channels to help bring an end to the conflict.

Speaking in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, as per news agency Kashmir News Agency  the Chief Minister said no one could support the manner in which the war was being carried out, referring to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and others during the conflict.

He also highlighted civilian casualties, including children, stating that such incidents cannot be justified.

The Chief Minister questioned the stated objectives of the war, noting a lack of clarity and pointing out that different reasons had been cited at different times by the US President.

Abdullah said the situation has a direct impact on people in Jammu and Kashmir, mentioning that some residents were stranded in Iran and that concerns were visible through long queues at petrol pumps.

He asserted that the Assembly has the right to express its views on issues affecting the people.

Referring to India’s relations with the countries involved, Abdullah said the country maintains ties with the United States, Israel, and Iran, and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to use these relations to push for de-escalation.

He said ending the conflict would help reduce suffering and called for efforts to restore peace.

Emphasising a humanitarian perspective, Abdullah urged immediate steps to stop the loss of lives. (Agency)
