CM Omar Abdullah Announces Rs 100 Crore Development Package for Bandipora, Launches 18 Mega Projects

Chief Minister unveils key infrastructure projects, reviews development and interacts with students enthusiastically

Bandipora, June 18: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday announced a major development package worth nearly Rs 100 crore for Bandipora district by inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for 18 major infrastructure projects aimed at improving education, connectivity, public services and civic amenities.

The projects include the construction of a Government Degree College at Ajas, a footbridge over the River Jhelum connecting Tundipora and Hakbara, a girls’ hostel at Government Degree College Bandipora, a new school building at Kaloosa, the upgradation of the Markundal-Hajin road, a water supply augmentation scheme, a multi-level parking facility, and residential apartments for Panchayati Raj Institution members.

During his visit, the Chief Minister chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the pace of development and the delivery of public services in the district. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, ministers Javed Rana, Javid Ahmad Dar, Satish Sharma, Sakina Itoo (virtually), local legislators and senior government officials.

Abdullah directed officers to ensure the timely execution of all ongoing projects, stating that administrative and financial approvals had been granted well in advance this year to make full use of the working season, especially considering Bandipora’s difficult terrain and weather conditions. He also assured that constituency-specific issues raised by elected representatives would be addressed on priority.

Highlighting Bandipora’s potential in medicinal and aromatic plants, the Chief Minister asked officials to promote scientific cultivation of medicinal herbs and explore the establishment of a dedicated industrial estate to encourage local entrepreneurship and generate employment opportunities for the youth.

Earlier, Abdullah distributed vehicles under the UMEED initiative, visited stalls established by self-help groups and met public delegations from Gurez, Tulail and Sonawari. He assured the delegations that their developmental concerns would be addressed promptly.
