New Delhi, September 26: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced plans to launch a nationwide protest from Mumbai on October 2 if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign.
CJP founder and national convener Abhijeet Dipke said the protest would begin on Gandhi Jayanti and subsequently expand to cities across the country. In a post on X, Dipke said the organisation would begin its nationwide mobilisation if Kumar did not step down by the deadline.
The announcement follows CJP’s demand for Kumar’s resignation over allegations concerning the functioning of the Election Commission and the revision of electoral rolls. The group has also called for an independent inquiry into decisions taken during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
The Election Commission has rejected suggestions of an institutional breakdown, stating that differing views and written observations are part of the decision-making process within a multi-member constitutional body. The poll panel has maintained that its decisions were unanimous.
CJP’s proposed October 2 mobilisation comes amid an ongoing political dispute over electoral-roll revisions and reported differences within the Election Commission.
