Atishi Questions BJP Government Over Budget Transparency, Missing Economic Survey
Former Delhi Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Atishi, on Friday, raised serious concerns over the transparency of the BJP-led government’s budget, questioning the source of its funds.
Addressing a press conference, Atishi stated, “It is unclear where the money shown in the budget is coming from,” emphasizing the need for greater financial accountability.
She also criticized the government for not presenting the Economic Survey during the budget session, calling it a break from a long-standing tradition. “The Economic Survey is a crucial technical document that provides financial clarity. It has been tabled in the Assembly for decades, but this time, the BJP government did not present it,” she said.
According to Atishi, the absence of the survey has raised doubts over the government’s claim of a 20% budget increase from the previous year. She also alleged that during Arvind Kejriwal’s tenure, Delhi never faced financial losses, adding, “Now, with the BJP in power, they are claiming the government is in deficit.”
The ruling BJP has yet to respond to these allegations.
On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, presented the budget for the financial year 2025-26, with an outlay of ₹1 lakh crore, marking a 31.5% increase from the previous year.
