Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against several Army personnel, including a Commanding Officer, for allegedly storming a police station in Kishtwar district and assaulting police personnel and damaging government property, officials said.
According to the FIR filed at Atholi police station, the incident occurred on Wednesday after a police team intercepted and seized a private vehicle linked to an Army officer over alleged traffic violations.
Police said around 30–40 personnel from the 17 Rashtriya Rifles allegedly entered the police station premises, scaled the gate and boundary wall, and carried out an attack using lathis, iron rods and other weapons. The FIR claims that police personnel on duty were physically assaulted, uniform was torn, and multiple officers including SDPO Vijay Kumar Bhagat and Special Police Officer Suresh Kumar were injured.
The complaint further states that government vehicles, including those of police and transport officials, were vandalised and the police station gate was damaged during the incident.
The FIR also mentions serious charges including attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, assault on public servants, and damage to public property under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
The Army has acknowledged the incident and said it is being examined through appropriate institutional mechanisms. Army officials stated that full cooperation will be extended to the investigation and action will be taken based on the findings of the joint probe.
