As part of its ongoing drive to combat drug trafficking, Anantnag Police made a significant breakthrough on Saturday by arresting two suspected drug peddlers and seizing a large quantity of contraband in separate operations in the Bijbehara and Sangam areas.
According to a statement issued to Greater Kashmir, a police team from Police Station Bijbehara, while conducting routine naka checking near Dupatyar crossing, intercepted a suspicious individual. He was identified as Mohd. Yousuf Mir, son of Gh. Ahmad Mir, a resident of Dupatyar. Upon searching him, the police recovered around 1 kilogram of a substance suspected to be Charas powder from his possession.
In a separate operation, a police team from Police Post Sangam established a checkpoint at Nati Pora Sangam Bund. During the naka, an individual approaching from Nati Pora towards the National Highway attempted to flee upon noticing the police presence. However, he was tactfully apprehended by the alert naka team.
Upon searching the suspect, police recovered approximately 1.290 kilograms of a substance resembling charas. He was identified as Manzoor Ahmad Dar, son of Wali Mohammad Dar, a resident of Nati Pora Sangam. The individual was taken into custody on the spot.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Anantnag Police reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating the drug menace and appealed to the public for cooperation. “We urge citizens to come forward with any information related to drug trafficking. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential,” the statement said. (Agencies)
