Amit Shah Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy on Terrorism, Pledges to Eradicate Naxalism by 2026
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday reiterated the government’s firm stance against terrorism and left-wing extremism, declaring that Naxal activities will be eliminated from India by March 2026.
Addressing the Rajya Sabha during a debate on the Home Ministry’s performance, Shah highlighted the Modi government’s commitment to national security, identifying terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, insurgency in the Northeast, and Naxalism as the country’s biggest challenges.
He noted that nearly 92,000 civilians have lost their lives to terrorism over the past four decades, yet previous governments failed to adopt a structured approach to tackle it. “The Modi government has implemented a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and has taken decisive action,” he asserted.
Shah also pointed out a 70% decline in casualties from terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, adding that incidents of stone-pelting have completely stopped. He credited the abrogation of Article 370 for bringing stability and strengthening grassroots democracy in the region.
Referring to the Northeast, Shah said the region has entered a new phase of peace and development, with 19 peace accords signed since 2019, leading to the surrender of nearly 10,000 militants.
On the fight against Naxalism, Shah criticised previous governments for failing to curb left-wing extremism, asserting that its complete eradication is a top priority. “By March 2026, Naxalism will be completely eliminated from the country,” he declared.
He further highlighted the government’s development efforts in Jammu and Kashmir, mentioning the creation of 40,000 government jobs, 1.51 lakh self-employment opportunities, and the operationalisation of skilling clubs between 2019 and 2024.
With a focus on national security and stability, Shah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making India free from terrorism and insurgency.
