AIADMK Leader Calls Bill a Threat to Property Rights, Demands Fair Representation in Delimitation
Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam Urges Centre to Withdraw Waqf Bill, Opposes Delimitation Proposal
Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-politician Vijay, has urged the central government to withdraw the Waqf Bill, alleging that it undermines the rights of the Muslim community. Additionally, the party has called for the proposed delimitation exercise to be scrapped, arguing that it unfairly disadvantages southern states.
During TVK’s first general council meeting in Chennai on Friday, a resolution was passed stating that the Waqf Bill imposes new restrictions that diminish the powers of Muslims over their properties and curtails their existing rights. The party demanded that the Centre revoke the bill immediately.
On the issue of delimitation, TVK cited reports suggesting that the number of parliamentary seats in northern states could increase significantly, while those in southern states, including Tamil Nadu, might be reduced. The party contended that Tamil Nadu was being penalized for successfully implementing the Union government’s family planning policies.
Vijay, who chaired the meeting, emphasized that the interests of Tamil Nadu must be safeguarded and urged the government to reconsider its stance on both the Waqf Bill and the delimitation proposal.
