Jammu/New Delhi, April 28, 2026: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to jailed Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid for a period of one week to enable him to visit his ailing father.
Rashid, who has been in custody for more than six years, was granted relief after the court observed that the matter was a fit case for interim bail after going through the records.
The court, however, imposed several stringent conditions. Rashid has been directed to furnish a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh along with a surety bond of the like amount. He will be accompanied by at least two police officials in plain clothes during the bail period.
As per the order, Rashid shall remain either at his residence or at the hospital where his father is admitted, the address of which must be provided to the authorities. He has been strictly restrained from moving outside these premises.
The court further directed that he shall use only one mobile number, which must remain switched on at all times. He has also been barred from contacting any witnesses or attempting to influence them in any manner.
Additionally, the court stated that no visitors, except immediate family members, will be allowed to meet him during this period.
Clarifying logistical arrangements, the court directed that the expenses for security and related arrangements will be borne by the National Investigation Agency.
The court also reiterated that Rashid shall remain under the supervision of at least two police personnel while staying either at the hospital or residence where his father is located.
