Mumbai, October 3, 2026: A 75-year-old Thane resident, Gopalakrishna Subbaiya Pillai, died after suffering a heart attack while attending the CJP protest at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on October 2. Police said Pillai reached the venue around 4:30 pm and complained of chest pain at around 5 pm. He was assisted by his friend and police personnel before being taken to Sushrusha Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR), and available reports say doctors attributed the death to a heart attack. There is currently no reported finding establishing that the protest itself caused his death or that any particular person or organisation is legally responsible.

Therefore, it would be premature to assign responsibility for Pillai’s death without further evidence. If questions arise regarding crowd management, medical arrangements, weather conditions, or any possible negligence, those matters would need to be examined by the appropriate authorities and supported by evidence before responsibility can be determined.
