Vijay Govt Suspends Cop Who Allegedly Sought Bribe via GPay, Four Others Face Action

Chennai: Five police personnel in Tamil Nadu have faced disciplinary action within a week in separate cases involving allegations of demanding or accepting bribes. The action includes four suspensions and one dismissal following departmental and vigilance enquiries.

Among the cases, head constable Sorna Raj of Melapalayam Police Station in Tirunelveli was suspended after allegedly demanding ₹1,000 from a two-wheeler rider during a vehicle check. According to the report, he allegedly shared his Google Pay number to receive the money.

In Chennai, sub-inspector Sivaraj and constable Vivek of North Beach Police Station were suspended following an enquiry into an alleged ₹10,000 payment made through Google Pay in connection with the release of a stolen two-wheeler. Another sub-inspector posted at Madhavaram Police Station was also suspended after an internal enquiry found a bribery complaint against him established.

The strongest action was taken against sub-inspector Marishwaran of Puzhal Police Station, who was dismissed from service following a departmental enquiry into allegations of demanding and accepting bribes.

The cases involve alleged bribes ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹10,000 and have prompted renewed scrutiny of corruption allegations within the Tamil Nadu police force.
