Jammu and Kashmir has geo-tagged around 30,000 Chinar trees across the Union Territory, creating a digital database to strengthen their monitoring, protection and conservation.
The initiative aims to maintain a comprehensive record of Chinar trees, including their geographical locations, enabling authorities to track their condition and take necessary measures for their preservation.
The digital database is expected to improve conservation planning, facilitate better management of the iconic trees and help protect Jammu and Kashmir’s rich environmental and cultural heritage.
Chinar trees, which hold immense ecological and cultural significance in the region, are an important part of Kashmir’s natural landscape. The geo-tagging initiative marks a significant step towards their scientific documentation and long-term conservation.
