A total of 23 opposition parties along with Independent MP Kapil Sibal have jointly written to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, raising concerns over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and other election-related issues.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said the decision to send the joint letter was taken during the INDIA bloc meeting held on June 8, 2026. He added that the opposition remains united on issues related to the electoral process.
According to Ramesh, the letter has now been signed by representatives of 23 political parties and Independent MP Kapil Sibal, urging the Chief Justice to take note of concerns surrounding the SIR process and other election-related matters.
Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien confirmed that the letter was also signed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the DMK, reflecting broader opposition support.
Sources said the letter also raises questions about the role and functioning of the Election Commission. Several opposition parties, including the Congress, have been criticising the Commission over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and have sought greater transparency in the electoral process.
