NEW DELHI: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men who posed as policemen at Astha Kunj Park near Delhi’s Kalkaji Mandir, police said. The incident has led to a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, while one of the accused has been arrested following an exchange of fire with police.
According to the police account, the girl and her 17-year-old male friend visited Kalkaji Mandir at around 7 pm on Monday to offer prayers. They later entered the nearby park, where three men, reportedly aged between 25 and 30, allegedly approached them and claimed to be police officers.
The men allegedly separated the girl from her friend and took her towards a secluded part of the park. Police said the accused allegedly threatened the teenagers before sexually assaulting the girl.
A PCR call was received at around 8:45 pm, following which police reached the park. The girl was subsequently taken to AIIMS for medical examination, while forensic teams examined the scene and collected evidence. An FIR was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.
During the investigation, police traced one of the accused, identified as Asif, near DM Office Road in Amar Colony. According to police, he allegedly opened fire when officers attempted to intercept him. A bullet reportedly struck a police officer’s bulletproof jacket, after which police returned fire, injuring Asif in the leg. He was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre and arrested.
Police teams are continuing efforts to locate the other two suspects, while CCTV footage from the park and surrounding areas is being examined as part of the investigation.
