A youth was critically injured after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in the Nowpora Safakadal area of Srinagar’s Old City, raising renewed concerns over the growing menace of stray canines in the locality.
The injured, identified as Arhan Bilal, was rushed to SMHS Hospital, where doctors are providing specialized treatment. His father told the news agency Trust that this was not the first time his son had been attacked. “Last year, my son was also attacked by stray dogs in the same area and suffered serious injuries. We are living in constant fear,” he said.
Witnesses said the incident occurred when Arhan was on his way home, and a group of stray dogs suddenly attacked him. Locals rushed to his aid, managing to drive the animals away before taking him to the hospital.
Residents of Nowpora Safakadal and nearby areas said they have repeatedly urged authorities to address the issue, but no concrete action has been taken. They noted that bikers and pedestrians face particular risks during evening and night hours, as packs of dogs chase anyone on the roads, making routine movement dangerous.
The attack has once again highlighted the persistent threat posed by stray dogs in various parts of Srinagar, especially in the old city, where narrow lanes and poor lighting conditions increase the risk. (Agencies)
