Jammu Kashmir Awami Tehreek chief discusses democratic rights, J&K’s political situation and future roadmap with former MPs and prominent leaders
New Delhi: Jammu & Kashmir Awami Tehreek President Waqar H. Bhatti held a national-level meeting with former Members of Parliament and prominent leaders in Nizamuddin, New Delhi, on Friday.
According to the statement, the meeting focused on the denial of permission to hold peaceful and democratic protests at Jantar Mantar in the national capital. The participants also discussed the prevailing political and socio-economic situation in Jammu & Kashmir and developments in the wider Indian context.
The meeting also included discussions on a future roadmap, strategic priorities and an action plan concerning what the participants described as “unconstitutional and undemocratic” aspects of the present political setup in Jammu & Kashmir following its reorganisation as a Union Territory.
The participants emphasised the importance of democratic institutions, constitutional values, political dialogue and a peaceful, people-centric approach to issues concerning Jammu & Kashmir.
A constructive roadmap for future engagement and democratic action was also discussed during the meeting.
