Srinagar, September 19: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, held an extensive public outreach programme in Srinagar, meeting delegations representing traders, businesses, transporters, trade unions, civil society, professionals, medical associations, students and other sections of society.
During the interactions, representatives raised concerns related to electricity infrastructure, shortage of staff in schools and hospitals, damaged roads, employment, civic amenities, job security and remuneration of scheme workers, among other issues.
Sharma assured the delegations that their concerns would be taken up with the concerned authorities and raised in the upcoming Assembly session wherever required.
The BJP leader also criticised the National Conference-led government over what he described as repeated references to “lack of powers” while addressing public grievances. He said people were seeking solutions to day-to-day issues and called for greater accountability from the administration.
Sharma also highlighted concerns of Daily Wagers, GRS, Technical Assistants, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and NHM employees, particularly regarding job security, remuneration and regularisation.
He further raised issues related to alleged corruption, delays in Panchayat elections, power tariffs and employment opportunities for youth.
“Our responsibility as the Opposition is to listen to the people, raise their issues in the Assembly and ensure that the government is held accountable,” Sharma said.
The outreach programme was attended by BJP leaders including Arif Raja, Bilal Parray, Dr. Ali Mohd. Mir, Adv. Sheikh Salman and Gh. Hasan.
Sharma said the BJP would continue its public outreach across Jammu and Kashmir and raise issues brought before it through constitutional and democratic forums.
