The Tamil Nadu government will now purchase only air-conditioned buses for public transport, following a directive from Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, Transport Minister Vijay Tamilan Parthiban said on Monday.
According to the minister, the Chief Minister has instructed that all future government buses in the state must be equipped with AC facilities to ensure improved comfort for passengers. He also added that the government aims to strengthen connectivity by ensuring that even remote regions of Tamil Nadu are covered under a robust and efficient bus network.
Quoting the Chief Minister’s vision, Parthiban said that public transport should gradually transition towards air-conditioned travel, making commuting more comfortable and modern for citizens.
The announcement comes amid a series of recent public initiatives by the Chief Minister, including the anti-drug awareness marathon titled “Start Run, Stop Drugs” held along Chennai’s Marina Beach. During the event, he participated alongside cabinet ministers and senior officials, urging citizens to spread awareness about drug abuse.
The government has also recently focused on development discussions and welfare outreach, including high-level meetings with central leadership on infrastructure, transport, and industrial growth priorities for the state.
