Srinagar and J&K Hit by Overnight Rains, Meteorologists Warn of Continued Precipitation

Overnight rains hit Srinagar and J&K, causing temperature drop; MeT forecasts rain in plains and snowfall in higher reaches over coming days.

Srinagar, Mar 10: Overnight rains lashed Srinagar and several other parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, leading to a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures across the Valley. The meteorological department has predicted more rainfall and snowfall over the next few days.

The MeT department has forecast generally cloudy weather with light rain and snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir over the next 72 hours.

Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif told news agency  that mostly cloudy conditions with chances of rain and snow are expected across Jammu and Kashmir during the next three days.

He said heavy rainfall is likely over the plains of north Kashmir, including Kupwara, Baramulla, and Bandipora, while central and south Kashmir may experience moderate to heavy spells of rain.

Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected in higher reaches, including the Sonamarg-Zojila axis, Sinthan Top, Sadhna Top, Razdan Top, and Peer Ki Gali.

A senior official at the Meteorological Centre Srinagar  told that from March 10 to 11, the region will likely experience generally cloudy conditions with light to moderate rain in the plains and snowfall at several higher-altitude locations.

Some high-altitude areas of Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Anantnag, and Kishtwar may receive moderate snowfall during this period.

The MeT official added that weather conditions are expected to improve from March 12 to 15, with generally dry conditions and occasional cloudiness, although brief spells of light rain or snow may occur at isolated locations.

From March 16 to 18, the weather is likely to remain mostly cloudy, with light rain or snowfall in higher reaches at isolated to scattered locations.

The department has issued an advisory warning of temporary traffic disruptions over higher reaches and key mountain passes in Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Anantnag, and Kishtwar due to snowfall. (Agency)
