Jammu, November 7, 2026: Shahi Imam Jammu, Hazrat Mufti Inayatullah Qasmi, has expressed serious concern over reports of an alleged ‘Zombie Drug’ case in Kishtwar district, warning that the growing threat of substance abuse could have devastating consequences for the younger generation.

In a statement, Mufti Inayatullah Qasmi strongly condemned drug abuse and appealed to parents, religious scholars, educational institutions and civil society organisations to work together to protect young people from addiction.

Highlighting the potential dangers, he said substances associated with the term ‘Zombie Drug’ may contain Xylazine, a powerful veterinary sedative that is sometimes illegally mixed with narcotic drugs. Exposure can cause extreme sedation, unconsciousness, breathing difficulties, severe skin wounds and potentially life-threatening complications.

The Shahi Imam urged the District Administration, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Health Department to conduct an impartial and thorough investigation into the alleged Kishtwar case, identify the sources of supply and take strict legal action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.

He also stressed that people struggling with addiction should receive proper medical treatment, counselling and rehabilitation rather than facing social stigma and discrimination.

Appealing for collective action, Mufti Inayatullah Qasmi encouraged parents to remain vigilant about their children’s activities and urged educational institutions, religious scholars and social organisations to promote awareness, education, sports and constructive activities.

“Our youth are the most valuable asset of society. Protecting them from the darkness of drugs and ensuring a healthy, aware and morally strong society is an urgent responsibility that cannot be ignored,” he said.

He called for coordinated efforts from all sections of society to safeguard the future of Jammu and Kashmir’s youth.
