The operation followed a high-level security review meeting chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir VK Birdi at the Police Control Room (PCR) in Srinagar. The meeting, attended by senior officials from the Police, Army, Intelligence Agencies, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), focused on assessing the security landscape and tackling emerging threats in the Valley.

Meanwhile, amid escalating tensions with Pakistan, the Indian Army responded to unprovoked small arms fire from the Pakistan Army across the Line of Control (LoC) during the intervening night of May 4 and 5. The cross-border firing targeted multiple sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor. Officials confirmed that Indian forces responded swiftly and proportionately.

This marks the eleventh consecutive day of effective Indian retaliation following the initiation of cross-border firing by Pakistani troops on the night of April 25-26.

On April 30, India escalated its measures by closing its airspace to all Pakistani-registered aircraft and carriers, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation. This move comes in the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, prompting a series of robust responses from Indian authorities.
