Srinagar, May 5: Minister for Science and Technology Satish Sharma on Monday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating solar energy adoption across Jammu and Kashmir and directed officials to ensure time-bound resolution of issues related to ongoing and proposed solar initiatives.
The Minister held discussions with a delegation from the Jammu and Kashmir Solar Association, which called on him to highlight key concerns regarding the promotion and expansion of renewable energy in the Union Territory.
Assuring full government support, Satish Sharma emphasized the need to facilitate the installation of rooftop solar systems, particularly in far-flung and underserved areas, to ensure wider access to clean energy solutions.
He stated that the expansion of solar infrastructure is central to the government’s vision of building a sustainable, energy-efficient, and environmentally responsible Jammu and Kashmir. He added that greater reliance on solar energy would help meet rising power demands while reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.
Issuing directions to officials, the Minister called for swift resolution of pending issues faced by the association and stressed that delays in approvals, clearances, and implementation must be addressed on priority to ensure smooth execution of solar projects.
He further emphasized the need for enhanced coordination among government departments, implementing agencies, and private stakeholders to eliminate bottlenecks and fast-track renewable energy initiatives across the region.
Reiterating the government’s inclusive development approach, Satish Sharma said special focus is being placed on extending solar benefits to remote and underserved regions to ensure equitable access to clean and sustainable energy.
The delegation appreciated the Minister’s proactive approach and expressed confidence that continued government support would significantly boost the growth of the solar energy sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
