KULGAM, MAY 10: Sakeena Itoo on Saturday inaugurated the much-awaited Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo Memorial Cricket Tournament at DH Pora in Kulgam to promote youth engagement in constructive activities and physical well-being.

Addressing a large gathering on the occasion, the Minister highlighted the transformative role of sports in building a healthy and progressive society. She said that sports not only promote discipline, teamwork and physical fitness but also serve as a powerful medium to positively engage youth and keep them away from social evils.

Sakeena Itoo reiterated the government’s commitment towards strengthening sports infrastructure and creating more opportunities for talented youth across Jammu and Kashmir. She assured that every possible support would be extended to encourage budding sportspersons, particularly in rural and far-flung areas.

The Minister also interacted with players and organisers and appreciated their efforts in successfully conducting the tournament. She encouraged participating teams to play with true sportsmanship and utilise sports as a platform for personal growth and community development.

The tournament, organised in memory of the late Wali Mohammad Itoo, witnessed enthusiastic participation from local youth, sports lovers, civil society members and prominent citizens from across the district.

The inaugural match generated huge public enthusiasm, with spectators cheering enthusiastically as teams displayed remarkable talent and competitive spirit on the field.
