New Delhi, October 26: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his controversial remark concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father during an event in Patna, Bihar.

In a post on X, Singh said he was “stunned and hurt” by Kharge’s remarks, accusing the Congress leadership of lowering the standards of political discourse by bringing personal and family matters into political disagreements.

The controversy erupted on October 25 during an event marking the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first Chief Minister, Shrikrishna Singh. Kharge made the remark while responding to an interruption from the audience regarding PM Modi’s continuation in power.

The BJP strongly criticised Kharge’s statement, with several senior leaders demanding an apology. The Congress, however, defended its president, claiming that his response referred to Modi’s ideological association with the RSS and followed an alleged insult directed at Kharge’s late father.
