Srinagar, Jun 20: Widespread public outrage has erupted following the initiation of a departmental inquiry by the Health & Medical Education Department against a cardiologist at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag over allegations of fraud, manipulation of medical records, misuse of government health schemes, and performing allegedly unnecessary cardiac procedures.

People from various sections of society have described the allegations as deeply concerning and have urged the authorities to register an FIR, conduct a fair and transparent criminal investigation, and recommend cancellation of the doctor’s medical registration if the allegations are substantiated.

Citizens said that if claims relating to patient exploitation, falsification of records, and misuse of the PMJAY-SEHAT health insurance scheme are proven, it would constitute a serious breach of public trust and compromise patient safety. They stressed that healthcare institutions must uphold the highest standards of ethics and accountability.

Several residents also called for a wider investigation to determine whether additional individuals were involved and whether public funds or patient welfare were adversely affected. They demanded strict action against anyone found responsible.

The public has appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Government, the Health & Medical Education Department, and other competent authorities to ensure a transparent, impartial, and time-bound inquiry. They said that criminal proceedings, departmental action, and cancellation of professional licences should be considered in accordance with the law if any wrongdoing is established.

The departmental inquiry is currently underway, and officials are expected to take further action based on its findings. Any determination of guilt will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
