PM Modi Likely to Inaugurate Katra-Srinagar Train on May 17, Final Schedule Awaited
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the much-awaited Katra-Srinagar train on May 17, marking the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. The inaugural ceremony is likely to take place at the Katra railway station in Jammu, though the final schedule is yet to be confirmed by officials.
A senior Northern Railway officer stated that this milestone will fulfill the long-standing dream of seamless rail connectivity in the region. “The train has been designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, ensuring smooth travel even during harsh winters. It will provide a safer and more comfortable journey for passengers,” the official said.
Preparations are in full swing for the grand launch, with railway officials, engineers, and workers working round the clock to complete the final arrangements. Stations along the route are being upgraded, security measures have been intensified, and thorough safety inspections of tracks and train systems are underway. Special emphasis is also being placed on passenger amenities to enhance the travel experience.
Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay confirmed that while the final schedule for the event is yet to be received, all necessary preparations are progressing rapidly. “No official confirmation has been provided regarding the exact timing and details of the inauguration. However, we are ensuring complete readiness once the final nod is given,” Upadhyay said.
He also mentioned that successful trial runs have already been conducted, with all safety and technical checks completed to ensure seamless operations. “We are awaiting official approval, after which all arrangements will be executed as per the finalized plan,” he added.
The USBRL project is expected to significantly enhance connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, improving trade, tourism, and mobility in the region.
